Anybody Home?

Hey girlies...how's the training going?? It's been pretty quiet around here so I thought I'd check in.

What training plans are you doing?

How is running going?

Tell me about your best run so far!!

I'll start. I know it's different because I'm training for a marathon along with the BB, but I'll still play along.

I'm going to join a marathon group in February so I'm not exactly sure what plan I'm going to be using...but I need to be able to run 6 miles by February 16. I'm going to try and bust out 4 on the treadmill tonight. I'm planning on doing my first 20-miler a few weeks before the Bolder Boulder. Right now 20 miles sounds absurd. I get tired driving 20 miles.

Running is going okay so far. I thought Spring was right around the corner and then we got slapped with a cold snap. The cold makes me want to curl up on my couch with a cozy blanket and eat Tater Tot Hot Dish while sipping cocoa and watching Oprah. Not exactly on the training plan. I've started monitoring my heart rate while on the dreadmill so that gives me something to think about as I grind out the miles and it almost motivates me to get to the gym. I'll perk up when it gets warmer.

My best run this year was on January 6 - it was a beautiful afternoon and I ran outside. I thought I was going to die because I felt so out of shape, but it felt glorious to be running outside on Real Live Ground.

Now it's your turn!

Hey chicas!

So I finally joined the 'blog team' and am ready to talk (complain) about running. :) I just finished the week of one minute run, now I just have to stick with when I get back to school. Field house here I come!

I was also wondering what the exact date of the big event was? I was thinking about that the other day and I hope that I'm done with classes by that time.

So - I am up to 1 min runs, pretty good for someone who puffs runnign up the stairs! And, I have successfully made it to the gym 4 times already - I am quite proud of that. The real test will be to see if I can keep it up for 1 month straight - I am usually all gungho for about a week and half, then someone says happy hour and all determination goes out the door. Which is why my goal is only 3 days a week - I should still be able to fit happy hour into that schedule...

I have been using the training schedule sent out by our inspiration, Allison Mayer (Hernan), months ago. It is the same idea as the walk break thing, though it starts out VERY easy. You pretty much take run breaks from a 45 min walk.

I am also in a "Dump the Plump" contest here are work - every week we weigh in and get prizes for the team that drops the most pounds. Luckily, I've been fattening up so now I'm ready to go!

I've decided...

...That this is my last week for being a slacker. I need to start running at least 3x a week - starting next week. I'm going to try and run twice this week - two 2-milers. Short and sweet. I need to get moving!!!

I like the plan that incorporates walking. Last night I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill (boring!) and it's hard to stay energized on a treadmill. So I definitely did some walking.

Thanks for sending those training programs!

Training plans?

Hey girlies...

What training plans are you going to use? Here's a few that I found...

Hal Higdon's 10k plan (I dig Hal)

Runner's World 10k plan (never tried this one)

Jeff Galloway's 10k plan (his theory: incorporate walk breaks)

Or you could follow the plan I'm using...but I'm guessing you won't want to squeeze in a 20-miler before the 10k. ;)
Wait- you've started training? Crap. Last night Jordan said to me when I told him about Bolder "It's this Memorial Day? And you want to run longer than you've ever run without stopping? And it's in high altitude? I think you better start training"...

So step one is to join a gym so I actually have a place to run. We have a treadmill in the basement of our apartment building, but I always think I'm going to get murdered when I walk down there. I'll go and join the gym tonight!
OK - so day 1 is down, only how many days left??? So far so good, now I just need to get to the point where I can actually run the entire time...

Welcome!

Over the holidays I conviced my "sisters" to run the Bolder Boulder 10k with me in 2008...

So this site is our sounding board. Welcome!
